2002/2003 Bouldering League
Competition
Overlook - Week 2
Week 2 started out by pushing the league member's endurance.
Five Boulder Problems were set up and for the men, two of them
were categorized as "HARD". The women had one extra
shared problem to climb. It was a good thing they did because
problem B kicked them for a loop in Week 2. The men's side boulder
problem "D" saw most sending the problem on their first
try and others sending on second or third tries. Overall, it showed
no match for the members. And problem "E" proved the
same with most of the league members sending on their first try
and others on second or third tries. Even problem "F"
saw 12 out of 14 ascents!!! The men are putting these problems
to shame. Problem "G" was an exception with only two
asents, none by the way of on-sight. And problem "H"
being the killer for many, but some found their way through the
hard start, but then pumped out on the stout ending of the problem.
Overall the men did pretty impressive for the amount of problems
this week. Also many changes occurred in the race for first, second,
third, & fourth. It's still close but there are no ties.
Week 2 proved to be a tough one for the women. In all actuality
though, they did quite well. Problem's "D" & "C"
were completed by most but not on-sighted by many. Overall, on
those two problems, the women kicked butt! Then comes Problem
"E" the extra problem... To be continued...

Overlook - Week 1

For the women, Judy came out in the lead, mainly because she on-sighted
every problem for the first week. Unreal Job! We'll see if she
can stay on top with another outstanding performance. Finishing
a close second is Jess, only 25 points behind Judy. That's a really
close race between first place and second place! Keep up the great
work, Jess! In third place is Kathleen, only 20 points behind
second, and 45 points behind first place. This determined climber
was pushing herself all week and for good reason. Nice job, Kathleen!
In fourth place is a new comer to the sport but a fast learner,
Corinne. Corinne is only 100 points behind 3rd place, which is
not a huge gap at the end of week one. Nice job, Corinne! Keep
working hard because all the women are going to do the same. In
fifth place is Julia, with a stout score of 1485, she climbed
hard to place fifth and finds herself only 140 points behind 4th
place, another close race. Keep it up Julia! Sixth place belongs
to Nicole, a strong climber, only hurt this week by the lack of
climbing time in her schedule. Watch out ladies; this one could
be a sleeper who comes from behind in the weeks to come. Nicole
is working hard and built a solid score of 1375 points, closely
trailing fifth place. Everyone put a their best foot forward!
Awesome job! Good luck to everyone as we move forward into Week
2. Keep it fun and climb hard!
Things are going crazy for the men, with a tie for first, and
just a 110 point difference between the tied climbers and third
place. In the first place tie we have Josh and Rob. Both strong
climbers, they sent all of the problems in the first week with
two on-sights. Close behind, in third place, is Zack who was the
only man to send Problem E in week 1! So with just a send on Problem
G he would have been in the lead. Unfortunately, after many attempts,
he fell just short. He is likely to be the of the top contenders
every week, but only time will tell. Fourth place is another tie,
with Stephen & Matt neck in neck with 1460 points, just 65
points behind third place. The competition for the top spots is
fierce! Keep checking in every week to see what happens! In 6th
place is Jim. A real stubborn hard headed climber that just doesn't
give up, and it shows. For all his hard work he finds himself
only 115 points behind 4th place. Mike is in seventh place, only
50 points behind sixth place and only 165 points behind fourth
place. He is a good prospect for jumping up in the standings with
a good week so watch out. Howie finds himself only 10 points behind
seventh place, 60 points behind sixth place, and 175 points behind
4th place. When these scores are all so close, anything could
happen in one week. There's no telling what can happen by the
end of the league. With three weeks left everyone is pushing a
little harder, I hope you are to. Michael M. finds himself in
eighth place, just 60 points behind his arch rival, Howie. A little
note to Howie: If you want a raise this isn't the way to go about
getting it. (haha) Glenn holds down tenth place with a score of
1210 points. Only 15 points out of 9th and with a well rested
foot no one knows what Glenn could do. Erich will be another one
to come on as weeks go by. Paul was slumped with waiver forms
so with no time to climb week 1 proved hard for him. John didn't
turn in all his scores yet!

Overlook From Week One

WOMEN
The women showed up to climb this first week of the bouldering league,
posting a higher average overall than the men! Problem D proved
no problem for any of the women; it saw seven ascents, all by way
of on-sight! Nice job to the women on that! Problem C saw a total
of six ascents, with three being completed on-sight. A tricky last
move had one of the women wanting just one more hold. When it was
all said and done, a good statement for the women on that problem.
Problem B, a traverse under the roof into a technical highball finish,
had some women fearing for their lives. Despite the difficulty factors,
the problem still saw 4 sends, with one on-sight! Overall, this
was another good performance by the women as they averaged 443 points
out of a possible 500. Last but not least, the double mantle Problem
A. This was a unique problem featuring a low mantle just after the
start, and the highball mantle at about 12 feet off the ground!
Two amazing on-sights were performed with two more ascents coming
after a bit more work! Awesome job! So the word is "The women
showed up to climb this week." Will the problems next week
kick them for a loop, or will it be a repeat of the first week with
a good overall performance by the women? Week two brings five new
problems for the men & women, so only time will tell.
MEN
Problems from week one proved to be fun and very tricky. Problem
D was a royal flush for both the men and women, with everyone sending
it by the way of on-sight! Nice! Problem E, down stairs, was labeled
"Tricky" and was well featured; a really nice line with
bouldery moves the whole way through. The men finished this problem
in different ways, with not one ascent being repeated the same way
by other members. Overall, it received five ascents, with one on-sight!
Nice job, Zack! Although it didn't see many ascents the average
came out to 213 points out of a total of 300. That's a pretty good
job guys, but I know you worked for it. Next up we have Problem
F, upstairs, on a steep wall with rather good holds and it was set
to kick some people. But it did just the opposite, seeing thirteen
ascents, ten by way of on-sight! Overall, the men did a real job
on Problem F. Problem G proved very interesting with two ascents
overall, none by way of on-sight. Some fell just below the roof,
some at the middle crux, and some in the beginning roof moves. Overall,
the men got a 248-point average out of a possible 500 points. Not
too bad. Well that's the word on the problems for week one. Good
luck with week two.
